Kentucky Knife Law Introduced to Make State Law Preempt Cities
Cody, WY (February 19, 2013) – The Bluegrass State may soon be added to the growing list of states that understand that allowing cities, municipalities or counties to pass knife laws creates a patchwork of confusion for its residents and visitors and inconsistent enforcement and enacts knife preemption laws to avoid these problems. Enacting knife preemption means that no local government or political entity may enact any law more restrictive than the state’s law. See About Knife Preemption for more information.
Kentucky Senator Robin Webb (D-18) a few days ago introduced Senate Bill 211 providing that the state law that preempts the regulation of firearms and ammunition be amended to include knives. Prior to be elected to the Senate, Ms. Webb served from 1999 to 2009 in the House of Representatives. A member of several outdoor organizations, Senator Webb understands the value of knives to hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities.
Senate Bill 211 has been referred to the Senate Committee on State and Local Government.
